Earlier this year, I featured on the blog a beautiful newborn photo shoot of baby Mavi. Seeing Mavi’s photos brought out the sentimental in me and had me longing for the time when Patty was still very little. I shared these sentiments, and how babies grow so fast with Mavi’s mommy, Ivy, over a couple of email exchanges and I knew somehow she felt the same and understood me like most mommies would. Among other things, she also shared her excitement about Mavi’s first birthday party. It was still a little too far ahead at that time, but she knew right then and there that Mavi’s party will be styled by Passion Cooks. With that I knew that this party was going to be fabulous and had me very excited for September, Mavi’s birth month, to come.
A few days ago, I received an email from Mommy Ivy and in that were the wonderful photos from her daughter’s 1st birthday party. I immediately looked through the email and saw that it also included a really nice write-up by Ivy about the party planning, details, and inspiration for the party theme.
I thought this party theme to be pretty, unique, and very timely this rainy season. And while many people associate rain with gloom, I think seeing this party would make them think otherwise as Mavi’s celebration is absolutely bursting with happy, and positive vibes!
See all the wonderful photos below as well as the party details as told by mommy Ivy after the full gallery.

Party details as told by Ivy:
Fact is, Maviz Gabriel or “MAVI” was born on a rainy September 19, 2013. We were bordered with a gloomy weather then, but in all honesty and cheesiness, having our first born just brought every bit of sunshine to the whole family.
That “rainy day” became our inspiration to come up with a weather-themed photo shoot and party for her 1st birthday. We envisioned raindrops, rainbows, happy clouds and sun bursts, vibrant rain boots and umbrellas! Her pre-birthday shoot was done over at 14Four Café with Wilvin Ang of Luxe Photography behind the lens, and Indy Ycasiano of She Dreams in Ink as style master! It was indeed the best prologue to the party!
Meanwhile, mounting her party was a breeze, we must say. It was such a joy and blessing to work with most of our wedding suppliers once again. We are truly THANKFUL for them! 🙂 To start off, the invitation and other printables were created by Tippy Go of Googly Gooeys. Other creatives were made by Femi Cachola (@gawanifemi) plus my own DIYs. For the party, over-all superb and detailed styling and of course, the delectable food was from Maja Martinez-Angeles of Passion Cooks Catering. Other nibbles like the FIC ice cream, cotton candy, and pearl coolers were from Sweet Services Food Carts. While for the dessert spread; candy buffet was provided by Sassy Candy Cart, cake and cupcakes were from The Royal Piccaddily (by Lora and Lisane Bate) and the cake pops, macarons and cute, personalized cookies were from Daisee’s Bakeshop (by Mina Seguerra and Ray Moran, my best friends!).
The party was smoothly managed by Maan of Party Starters. And the whole afternoon was made enjoyable by the lively hosting of Apollo Abraham and by the fun bubble show of Roppets Edutainment. It was really fun to see the kids (and adults) jumping, trying to catch and pop the huge bubbles!
And to remember such perfect day, Joshua de Guzman of Little J Photography took early pictures of the party elements while Ian Celis Productions made sure they captured the snippets and grand moments of the party. For our family, friends and guests, we had photo magnets from Pose and Print, handcrafted key chains from Joanna Gutierrez of Istorya Creations and cloud-shaped book/toy caddies from Handicrafts Atbp. as souvenirs.
We literally celebrated our daughter’s 1st birthday in rain and flood, but our Lord provided a better aftermath. Mavi’s celebration may probably be remembered as the “after the storm” or the #mavilovestyphoonmario party. Nonetheless, seeing the party with all the happy faces (including Mavi’s) were a great reminder to always, always see the good in anyone or in anything. Life is truly enjoyed and appreciated best while “under the rain”. Life is G – double O – D, GOOD! 🙂
Ps. In lieu of gifts, we’ve asked our invitees to choose between Mavi’s two wish clouds. A share in one wish cloud will help send Mavi to school. And a share in the other wish cloud will go to THE PETER PROJECT. A fiberglass boat named “Mavi & Friends” will be given to a chosen fisherman whose boat and source of livelihood were taken by super typhoon Haiyan (www.nvcfoundation-ph.org/projects/peter-project
